Contact lenses are a fantastic alternative to wearing glasses. Contact lenses at one time were really more of a hassle than a help. Now days most contact lens wearers are in soft disposable lenses. The advent of the soft disposable lens has really changed the face of eye wear and eye care. Soft disposable lenses are very easy to care for and provide excellent vision. Most soft lenses are daily wear lenses, meaning that they are to be worn during the day only, removed before bedtime, then inserted the next morning. New safe contact lens solutions like optifree, renu, complete, aquify and clear care have made caring for contact lenses very easy. You simply remove the lens at night and place it in fresh contact lens solution. Then it is ready to put back in the next morning. In the past few years contact lens technology has improved to provide us with silicone hydrogel lenses FDA approved for extended wear or overnight wear. The focus night and day and purevision lenses have been approved to leave on the eye for 4 weeks at a time. Others like the o2 optix and acuvue oasys can be left on the eye for 7 days. The most important rule with contact lenses is don't abuse them. Don't wear a lens longer than it should be used, and don't wear a lens if it is bothering your eye. Misuse of contact lenses can lead to serious eye infections. If you are a contact lens wearer and are having problem, seek the advice of you eye care professional. Be smart and have fun. Contact lenses will give you freedom from you glasses and are an excellent alternative.
